Solar Dryer
In August 2005 a solar dryer with an area of absorption of 2m² was built at the Bedmoschk Solar Center. A small ventilator which is directly powered from a solar module generates the air flow through the dryer. The area for drying is 1m². For testing apricots were dryed. The apricots took almost as long to dry as with the habitual drying on the flat roofs of the houses, but they were cleaner. This means that the quality of the product was increased by protecting it from dust and insects.
Further tests will be done to optimise the air flow and required time for drying.
The aim is to use a bigger version of this dryer for drying the locally grown fruit in a quality that can be sold.
